Mum's Heartbreak As Callous Thieves Steal Keepsakes From Her Son's Grave

A mum has been left distraught after heartless thieves stole ornaments and keepsakes from her son's grave.

Debbie Hartill, 46, branded the mindless perpetrators 'scum' as she discovered a teddy bear, angels and a prayer book had been taken from her son Richard's resting place in Witton Cemetery, Birmingham.

Richard died suddenly at the age of 22 in 2008. The heartless thieves even took a letter his devoted mum had written for him and left at his graveside.

She told her local newspaper that the 'scum' who had stolen the items 'needed to be stopped'.

"I can't describe the way I feel about them," she said. "They are the lowest of the low. Why would they take personal verses from me to my son?"

Debbie made the discovery when she visited Richard's grave with her daughter Holly last week.

"It's hard enough to lose your son, but when something like this happens it brings all the grief back," she said, adding that her daughter had been left traumatised by the theft.

"Holly kept saying 'why have they taken it?'" Debbie said.

A similar spate of thefts is said to have been reported in the area.

What a disgusting thing to do - how could anyone steal from a person's grave?
