Heir To Bolt? The Beast Runs Joint-Third Fastest Time In 100m

Yohan Blake became just the third sprinter in history to run the 100 metres in 9.69 seconds at the Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland.

'The Beast' finished eleven-hundredths of a second behind world record holder Usain Bolt and beat Tyson Gay into second place.

Jamaican Blake revealed to the BBC afterwards he had been "sick all week" prior to his win, as he was cheered on by compatriot Bolt.

Blake, who took silver in the 100m and 200m at the London 2012 Olympics and was part of Jamaica's world record 4x100m sprint relay quartet, added he and Bolt would not race against one another for the remainder of the season because "they [organisers] have to put up big money".

Six-time Olympic gold medalist Bolt meanwhile admitted his prediction for 22-year-old Blake was narrowly beaten by the Beast.

"I predicted 9.72," he admitted. "But he went a little bit faster."
