A Agni-IV strategic missile successfully launched from Wheeler Island Orissa, India successfully tested a nuclear-capable Agni-IV missile from a base off its eastern coast and the surface-to-surface missile was fired from a mobile launcher and hit a target in the Bay of Bengal with high accuracy the Defence Research and Development Organization said. The launch came two days after arch-rival Pakistan tested its nuclear-capable Hatf-VII Babur missile with a range of 700 kilometers.

Around 250 informal settler families living on a 870,000 square metre lot will be affected by the demolition, to give way for the construction of a three-storey multi-purpose building for the city government. More than two million people in Metro Manila, or roughly one fifth of the sprawling city's population, live in shanty towns as so-called informal settlers.

The protesters were calling for the revocation of the recently-signed mining act which they claim to benefit only foreign mining companies, the depletion of the country's minerals as well as the displacement of residents and indigenous peoples from mining sites
