Leeds United V Everton League Cup: Wayne Rooney's Excellent Elland Road Goal (VIDEO)

WATCH: Rooney's Everton Goal At Elland Road

Leeds United host Everton for the first time at Elland Road in the League Cup tonight since the two sides faced one another in an April 2004 Premier League clash.

Two 18-year-olds, Wayne Rooney and James Milner, scored in the 1-1 draw a week after Leeds registered what would be their last top flight win to date.

Four games later the 2001 Champions League semi-finalists were relegated, while Everton, who themselves finished 17th (just two places and six points above the Whites) would qualify for the competition a year later.

Once a blue, always a blue?

But the Elland Road match is best remembered for the previous season's winner as Rooney reaffirmed his burgeoning reputation.

Having turned 17 just nine days previously and with that goal against Arsenal registered a fortnight beforehand he went solo again to score a magnificent winner, reducing men half his age to whimpering schoolboys in the process.
