Sometimes, you can discern all you need to know about the human race simply by seeing what's trending on YouTube.

And today? The video everyone's glued to is this three-minute clip of Sir Ian McKellen's Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings nodding his head to a Europop track (It's the riff from Run Away by Sunstroke Project and Olia Tira, since you ask. In fact, you may recognise it as Moldova's entry in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. But then again, you probably won't.)

Anyway, we've just sat and watched Gandalf nodding for a few seconds. And before we knew it, we were nodding, too. And then we glanced round and saw our entire open-plan office full of people nodding their heads while they each watched the same video on their computer screens.

For God's sake, don't watch it - or you'll get sucked into this pointless nodding hell, too! Yes, we know the thought of seeing Gandalf seems almost irresistible for the average Rings fan - but maybe you could get your fix by watching these Peeder Jigson videos instead...
