Jack Wilshere edged closer to making his Arsenal comeback as he played for the first time since July 2011 for the club's under 21s at West Brom.

The England international, who hobbled off against New York Red Bulls in the Emirates Cup last year, played 63 minutes at the Hawthorns on Monday afternoon.

Wilshere, 20, has not featured for Arsenal since their final game of the 2010-11 season at Fulham when the Gunners drew 2-2.

He has not started a competitive match since he won his fifth cap for England in their Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland at Wembley in June 2011, which also ended 2-2.

Arsenal's new number 10 relaxes before kick off

Wilshere will wear the number 10 shirt when he returns to the first-team - since the squad number was vacated by Manchester United striker Robin van Persie.

He has made 64 appearances for his boyhood club so far, scoring three goals.
