A sister was left with 68 pieces of shotgun shell embedded in her face after her brother accidentally shot her with their father's gun.
Twelve-year-old Zhang Qin's younger brother, 11, was playing with the hunting weapon when it went off, blinding Zhang in one eye and peppering her face with pieces of metal.
Zhang, from Liangping, China, was rushed to hospital but was told that it would be too risky to try to remove the shots.
The girl now has scarring on her face, which she covers with a scarf, and has refused to go back to school after the incident three months ago.
Her father Zhang Kunhua said: "My only hope is to have her old appearance back, and she could live independently."
After the accident, her father, was jailed for a short time for holding illegal weapons. He has now been granted bail because of the family situation.
