Daniele de Rossi once described himself as a d**khead after he viciously elbowed the USA's Brian McBride to get sent off at the 2006 World Cup. He may have felt similarly after the red mist descended again when the Roma midfielder was red-carded for punching Stefano Mauri in the Derby della Capitale loss to Lazio.
In monsoon-like conditions, Erik Lamela put Roma in front but Antonio Candreva equalised before Miroslav Klose pounced just before the interval for a 2-1 Lazio lead.
Maybe frustrated at how quickly Roma's lead and then trailed, it was after Klose's goal when De Rossi lashed out at Mauri to put his side a man as well as a goal down. Two minutes after the re-start the victim doubled the Biancocelesti's advantage.
Miralem Pjanic pulled one back with minutes to spare but Lazio held on to remain fifth in Serie A and move five points clear of their city rivals.
