If their music was truly worth listening to it would easily sell itself. A lot of artists do that. But Spotify doing nothing for music? I thought artists were all about expressing themselves and building an audience. Apparently they only believe that if that audience means lots and lots of money. Instead of a just a decent amount of money.
One of my favorite bands and I am sorry to see them retire, is Chumbawamba. What did they think about piracy? As long as their message gets out that's what they wanted, they didn't care how it got out, even with piracy.
The fact is bands like Galaxy 500 are interchangeable with every other "indie" band that sounds exactly like them. As "indie" as they claim to be they're just as manufactured by advertising as any other "mainstream" band and the record companies love that. Because if the band gets too big for its britches they just replace them with another band that's exactly like them.
On the other hand, I can spot a Chumbawamba song instantly, the style, the unique vocal arrangement, instrumentation everything truly unique. Not for everyone's taste but 100% identifiable as them from their punk days to their folk. They can be spotted.
Do a blind listen to all those indie bands especially their b-sides you've never listened to and see if you can even tell what band it is.
