Gary Oldman Fan Favourite To Play James Bond Villain

The Next Bond Baddie?

Gary Oldman has topped a new poll to seek out the ultimate villain for the next James Bond movie.

The Brit beat out Daniel Day-Lewis by just two per cent in a week-long Fandango.com vote.

The movie ticket site asked fans to select the star they'd most like to see as 007's nemesis in an upcoming Bond site, and Oldman topped the survey with 20 per cent.

Oscar winner Christoph Waltz, Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron also made the top five, while Kevin Spacey, who recently expressed a desire to portray Bond's foe, came in sixth.

Russell Crowe, Steve Buscemi, Tilda Swinton and current Bond Daniel Craig's real-life wife Rachel Weisz also made the top 10.

Fandango editor-in-chief Chuck Walton tells WENN, "In the days leading up to the release of Skyfall, Fandango polled moviegoers nationwide about who they feel should be the next Bond villain. More than 1,000 movie fans participated in the survey.

James Bond's Best Villains

"Gary Oldman was the number one choice... He's a very intriguing choice. Most recently, he's been identified with good guy roles in The Dark Knight and Harry Potter movies, but he's played some incredible villains earlier in his career in The Fifth Element, Air Force One, Lost in Space and of course, Dracula. I think it would be great fun to see him play an over-the-top, scenery-chewing Bond villain.

"Meanwhile, Daniel Craig's wife, Rachel Weisz, only garnered five per cent of the vote, but it would be an intriguing idea to have her as one of the few female Bond villains. It would be great to see Weisz take on her real-life husband."
