Cheers Sitcom To Be Given Irish Makeover, With Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammer's Characters Replaced

Posted: Updated:

Hit American sitcom 'Cheers' is set to be given an Irish makeover 20 years after it went off-air.

The popular TV comedy, starring Ted Danson, Kirstie Alley and Kelsey Grammer, is to be remade with an Irish cast and renamed 'Teach Sean' after Dublin-based company Sideline Productions purchased the rights to the NBC show.

The programme's famous bar will be located in Ireland instead of Boston, Massachusetts and the new 'Cheers' will feature similar characters to the original, but with an Irish twist.

Danson's character Sam Malone, a recovering alcoholic who owns the bar, will be renamed Sean and instead of being an ex-baseball player, he will be a former star of Gaelic sport hurling, according to the New York Post.

The new show will air on Ireland's TG4 channel.
