Lenny Kravitz Quits Marvin Gaye Film

Lenny Kravitz has dropped out of the Marvin Gaye biopic Sexual Healing.

The American Woman singer has been replaced by Jesse L Martin, who was attached to the role in Julien Temple's drama five years ago, reported Deadline.

The film had been delayed due to Marvin's son Marvin Gaye III, who voiced his objections about the big-screen adaptation of his father's life. But the project is now expected to begin shooting in Europe in late March.

Brendan Gleeson is to co-star as music promoter Freddy Cousaert alongside Jesse, who was previously attached with another version of the biopic, to be produced by James Gandolfini.

The film is said to focus on Marvin's life in the 1980s, when he battled drug abuse and depression in the years before his death in 1984 when he was by his father during an argument.

Lenny, who starred in Lee Daniels' Precious and The Hunger Games, has been working on his new album Negrophilia and is set to reprise his role as stylist Cinna in the Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire.
