The next time you complain about the school run, think about these children in China who have to climb 70 metres on ladders to get to their classrooms.

Fourteen-year-old Yu Qiyun and his little sister are educated 35km away from their village of Zhangjiawan, in Sangzhi County, Hunan Province.

So they have to scale the wooden ladders because there is no road access between their schools and homes.

They carry bags, which makes the journey even more treacherous, and are sometimes accompanied by dogs, who also have to climb.

One of the female adults that escorts the children was more scared than them.

She said: 'It makes my leg shiver. I dare not look down when I am climbing up now because I am so frightened."
