There are sad times ahead for 'Coronation Street's favourite doddery-like couple Roy and Hayley Cropper, after Hayley was diagnosed with terminal cancer this week.
But in scenes aimed to celebrate the ITV soap partners' long love affair, Roy (David Neilson) and Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) have been spotted filming a special trip to Blackpool.
The pair will vow to spend every moment Hayley has left together, after the factory worker discovered on Monday that she only has a few months left to live.
Hesmondhalgh announced earlier this year she is leaving the soap after playing transsexual Hayley for 15 years.
"I do remember reading the scripts for the first time and being inconsolable," Julie said of her heartbreaking exit storyline.
"Every single page, I was heartbroken because it's a really strange thing. She's not me, but she's a massive part of me. She's been a huge part of my life for over 15 years."
She added: "I do feel really honoured to be given the opportunity to play this storyline because cancer in general is something that affects everybody."
