Nine-Year-Old Girl Shot At Halloween Party After Relative Mistook Her For A Skunk

A little girl in Halloween fancy-dress was shot and injured after she was mistaken for a SKUNK by a gun-toting relative.

The nine-year-old child - who has not been named - was said to have been wearing a black costume accessorized with a white-tasseled hat when a male relative thought she was a skunk and opened fire.

The girl and her relative had been at a Halloween part in New Sewickley Township, western Pennsylvania when the incident took place.

She had gone outside and was reported to have been 'over a hillside' when she was shot.

Although details of her condition have not been released, Sky news reports her as being 'alert and talking' when she was flown to hospital in Pittsburgh where she had surgery for her injuries.

Officials said the case was being investigated, but no arrests had been made.
