It has been rumoured for weeks, but it seems all but confirmed that Beverley Callard is to return to 'Coronation Street' as Liz McDonald.

Her co-star Simon Gregson, who plays her son Steve, has let the (not so big) secret slip to The Sun, revealing she will come back as the new landlady of the Rovers Return.

She will be back behind the bar after current landlady, Stella Price, played by Michelle Collins, leaves the cobbles of Weatherfield behind, with Steve secretly buying back the boozer.

“Not only has he bought the Rovers secretly, he has enlisted his mum’s help and kept that a secret too," Simon told the paper.

“Steve and Michelle are the licensees and he thinks Liz will be a silent partner... but then she arrives in Weatherfield!”

Rumours of the storyline were first leaked to the Daily Star last month, with an insider telling the paper: "The McDonalds have always had a soft spot for the Rovers. Steve would never have got rid of it if it wasn't for his financial problems when he was wed to Becky.

"So now that he can afford it again, he can't wait to get back in there."
