Syrians are deciding today whether the man whose regime has killed its opponents in a brutal civil war should continue as president.

Here at The Huffington Post UK, we are going to call the election for Bashar al-Assad, the man who has been president since the death of his father in 2000, over two relative unknowns who have campaigned relatively little.

Many have described the election as a "sham" designed purely to reinforce Assad's rule.
