The French Canadian city is split between old and new; walking around Montréal's old town in the east is like stepping back in time (the street lamps lining this part of town will tell you which era each street was built in). Cobbled streets and 18th century architecture make it the ideal place to experience the diverse heritage while the underground city (which houses the métro and a vast shopping centre) in downtown Montréal is a reminder that it is a vibrant, sophisticated urban space.
