Looking after long hair, particularly when the texture is thick or curly, can easily become the most time-consuming part of your daily beauty routine. The washing, the taming, the blow drying... it can go on for hours.

So, when we hear of tips and secrets that are proven to work wonders, we're all ears - and this latest piece of advice is definitely one to share.

The miracle product? You'll find it in your kitchen cupboard.

Yep, apple cider vinegar is the answer to glossy, healthy-looking hair. It's great for detangling knotted locks and the acidity in it also balances the hair's natural pH levels.

How do you use it? Blogger Tessa John-Connor, who also goes by the name of Afroista, spoke to Huffington Post Style about how she washes her thick curls with the stuff.

"I put two tablespoons of Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Magic Soap or apple cider vinegar in a jug of water to cleanse my scalp," she told the site.

"Once a month, I make a mask out of bentonite clay with some filtered water and apple cider vinegar and add a tad bit of olive oil and marshmallow root powder."

And when you're done with using it as a shampoo alternative? Apple cider vinegar has plenty of other benefits, including soothing a sore throat, preventing bad breath and reducing inflammation on the skin. We know what we'll be buying on our next visit to the supermarket...
