A drunk dad is facing jail after his eight-year-old son drove him home – and caused a three-car pile-up.

Mikolaj Tomaszewski, 38, had been drinking all afternoon with friends in Gielniow, Poland.

When he decided to go home, he realised he was far over the legal limit – so rather than call a taxi, he called his son Juliusz and told him to cycle to the pub, and then to drive him home.

He told police that he had allowed the child to practise driving at weekends in a local supermarket car park, and thought it would be fine for his son to drive him the short distance home.

But as the boy struggled behind the wheel of the Opel Corsa, he pulled in front of a car coming the other way at a crossing.

The collision sent them flying across the road into a third car. All three vehicles were written off.

The father and son were among five people taken to hospital with cuts and bruising.

Tomaszewski was later arrested for endangering the life of a minor and causing an accident.

If convicted, he faces five years in prison.
