Do you remember when you first decided to take the plunge and launch yourself in the Twitterverse?
Everyone who was already there was like, "YOU CAN FOLLOW CELEBRITIES AND EVERYTHING!!!" (making your point in upper case seemed to be the first sign you were fully addicted). Meanwhile, friends who weren't convinced did their "I'm-on-Facebook-piss-off" face and that was that.
But in the eight years since Twitter started in March 2006, even a huge number of the skeptics have began tweeting. Reluctantly at first, but once you get into the habit of sharing your thoughts/lunch/musings on HBO shows, it's actually pretty hard to stop.
Essentially, Twitter was the place we decided it was absolutely fine to share sometimes intimate information and pictures with complete strangers.
But can you remember your first tweet? To celebrate its eighth birthday, Twitter has launched an app taking you to your initial foray into it's kind of crazy, not to mention addictive world. Naturally, Team MyDaily couldn't resist having a look for #FlashbackFriday...
Sara McCorquodale (@SaraCorquers), MyDaily Editor, says: "I joined because my friend Carlene (@carlene_writer) said it would be a good way to get more people to visit my then blog, The Literary Look. The blog and I fizzled out, but me and Twitter are still going strong."
Katie Jones (@k_h_jones), MyDaily Deputy Editor, says: "I joined twitter during Spring/Summer 2011 fashion month - this was me trying to send a supportive fashion week tweet to MyDaily's Editor at the time Libby Banks."
Ellen Stewart (@ellenRstewart), MyDaily News and Features Writer, says: "I reluctantly joined Twitter when I was training to be a journalist back in 2010. I had just turned 21 and was told you just 'had to' be on Twitter if you were EVER to land a job in the industry. At the time I was mainly writing about parking fines for a local newspaper, so I doubt my Twitter feed was a particularly thrilling read."
Daisy Sitch (@DaisySitch), MyDaily Fashion Reporter, says: "I first joined Twitter purely on a work capacity - I was in online video publishing and this first Tweet was shouting out to Henry Holland's collection for Debenhams. OK, so I clearly wasn't up to speed on the @ mention front but at least I hash tagged!"
