George W Bush Is A Grandfather For The First Time

Former US president George W Bush has become a grandfather for the first time after his daughter Jenna Bush Hager gave birth to a little girl called Margaret. (Could she have been inspired by the recently departed Margaret Thatcher?)

Jenna, 31, delivered Margaret Laura in New York City at 8.43 pm on Saturday. In a statement, Mr Bush said he and his wife Laura were 'elated' by the news.

The new mum, who is a correspondent on the Today Show, held her baby shower just last week, and was spotted out and about in New York city a few days ago with her enormous baby bump proudly on display.

Last month, Mr and Mrs Bush helped decorate the nursery at the Hager's Manhattan apartment, with George, who has become a keen painter since leaving the White House, reportedly giving several of his own works for the baby's room (!).

The Daily Mail reports that paintings in the nursery include a picture of the Hager's cat, Bernadette, hanging over the baby's cot, a landscape featuring a 'baby tree' on the family's Texas ranch and a stilllife of nightfall over the ranch's stone cross where the couple married in 2008.

Jenna and Henry, 34, met during her dad's 2004 presidential campaign, and announced they were expecting their first baby on the Today Show in December last year.
