How To Make Your Own Face Mask

How To Make Your Own Face Mask

Face masks are brilliant at boosting radiance and hydrating skin but making your own is a whole lot more satisfying (and a lot cheaper) than buying from your favourite brand.

It doesn't have to be complicated, either. Everyday ingredients such as lemons (great at cleansing), honey (brilliant for reducing red patches) and oatmeal (it removes dirt and impurities), will work wonders in homemade masks. So - how can they be made? We asked beauty blogger Lisa from Beauty Scoop to share her tried and tested recipe.

If a make-it-yourself mask sounds slightly daunting, fear not. The contents of your fridge are really all you need to concoct a multitasking mask that will leave your skin looking revitalised with tighter pores and giving off a salon glow.

Here's what you'll need:

1 avocado

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon runny honey

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon fine oatmeal

1 cucumber

A bowl

1 willing face

Peel and de-stone the avocado and mash it together with all of the above ingredients until it's of a relatively smooth paste consistency (a few little chunks are ok though).

Apply the mask to a dry face using circular motions, making sure to avoid going too close to the eye area. Cut two slices of cucumber and apply to your eyes - this will help to soothe and de-puff tired eyes. Then, the nice bit, lie back on the sofa for ten minutes while the mask gets to work. And relax...

After 10 minutes, rinse off with luke warm water and pat your skin dry with a fluffy towel.

Your skin should feel soft and smooth thanks to the exfoliating properties of the oatmeal, pores should look smaller thanks to the lemon juice and your visage should be glowing because of the oil benefits from the avocado and olive oil - just as it would after a professional facial. Hurrah!
