John Legend Launches #OperationGirl With Empowering Music Video

John Legend's love songs might not be your thing, but the latest music video for his new romantic tune 'You and I' is one to watch.

The four-minute video has been launched as part of charity initiative #OperationGirl, which will raise money for women around the world.

It features clips of his wife Chrissy Teigen as well as Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox, who are shown looking into the camera as if it's a mirror.

They join a group of women including a breast cancer survivor, who is shown taking off her bra to reveal her double mastectomy, and a young girl with the skin condition vitiligo.

Transgender actress Cox is also shown removing her makeup.

It's one of the most moving videos we've seen in a long time and Legend's inspiration behind the song is even more touching.

"When I wrote this song I was thinking about when Chrissy and I go on date night," he told his fans at a concert in May.

"Sometimes there's all this pressure to look so good. This song is just letting her know that even before all of the makeup and all those fancy clothes, she's already perfect in my eyes."

It's all for a good cause too.

Legend is working with Burkle Global Impact Initiative and news organisation RYOT to try and raise $100,000 (around £58, 250) for the #OperationGirl campaign by 18 August. Find out more about the project and how you can donate at CrowdRise.
