A judge has described a mum who provided her killer sons with false alibis as a 'pathetic character'.
Linda Doran was sentenced to 30 months in prison after being convicted of perverting the course of justice when she covered for her sons Connor and Brandon Doran, aged 17 and 14, when they, along with their friend Simon Evans, 14, killed a man for a 'dare'.
Homeless Kevin Bennett, 53, was attacked by the youths as he slept outside a Liverpool supermarket on 17 August last year.
He suffered a fractured eye socket, a collapsed lung and a broken ribcage and died in hospital six days after the sickening assault.
Connor Doran, who the judge called the 'leader of the pack' was sentenced to a minimum of 12 years in prison. His brother Brandon was handed down a six year sentence for acting as the 'look out', and Simon Evans was given eight years.
The three had all denied Mr Bennett's murder.
Judge Clement Goldstone QC, the Recorder of Liverpool, told the trio: "I think it is a desperately sad reflection on this society that each of you was party to serious violence purely for the sake of it."
Linda Doran's older son Ryan, 23, is already serving a life prison sentence for murder after he attacked a stranger with a bottle in a chip shop.
The BBC reports that her 21-year-old son Jordan is also in prison, having been jailed in February for contempt of court after filming his mother and brothers' courtroom appearance on his mobile phone.
