My Big Day: Sarah And Steve

My Big Day: Sarah And Steve

Wedding guests just wanna have fun, don't they? Friends of Sarah and Steve's who attended the couple's Broadway, Cotswolds wedding last summer certainly had a ball with the bevy of circus games and fun fair activities on offer (from a coconut shy to Splat the Rat!).

The couple merged traditional elements (church venue, strapless white wedding dress from Enzoani) with quirky and laidback touches, like the fish and chip van serving up dinner courtesy of Food Genie to their eye-catching transportation vehicle, a retro orange VW camperman called 'Nemo' (which belongs to Sarah's boss and made a great backdrop for group shots).

Photographed by Miki Photography's Mick Shah, the couple made sure their wedding was a reflection of their personal style - the first hymn in the ceremony was Dirty Dancing signature 'I've Had the Time of My Life.'

"Everything was our own touches - we designed and made everything to make it ours," says Sarah of the big day, which included plenty of DIY details (handpainted wooden signposts, blackboards with handwritten 'rules' and messages, photos of each guest by their place setting and retro jam jar drinks glasses). The couple also had a dressing-up booth, baking competition, amaretto shot toasts and prizes up for grabs (Wish. We'd. Been. There)....

Sarah's top tip for brides-to-be? "Try not to worry about whether the day will go to plan or if the little details are not working out; it doesn't matter as it will all fall in to place in the end.

"People will not worry about little things - they are there to enjoy and be with you on your special day."
