New Wonder Woman Divides Fans

The new Wonder Woman has been unveiled at this year's Comic Con festival and while many are thrilled with her makeover, others are less impressed.

Zack Snyder, director of the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, tweeted the image of Israeli actress Gal Gadot in costume ahead of an appearance at the San Diego event.

Gone is the familiar red, blue and gold costume Wonder Woman is famed for, and in its place is a leather-looking Xena Warrior Princess-like ensemble with matching thigh-high boots.

Some fans were overjoyed to see their comic book favourite revamped for a new audience, claiming the heroine's costume was long overdue an update.

"Not the classic costume, but interesting," said one fan on Facebook. With another tweeting: "That looks like Wonder Woman to me!"

There was more outcry on social media. "*cries* I just saw the new Wonder Woman costume reveal. What the heck? They butchered it," a young fangirl wrote on Twitter.

"Not impressed," said another on DC Comics' Facebook page. "Colors are too muted. Nothing about this says Wonder Woman."

But it's not just her costume that's caused upset. Many have remarked on the new Wonder's frame.

"Where is the powerful, strong Wonder Woman we all love?" asked another fan on Facebook. "She looks way too small."
