Periods Are Rubbish - Sign This Petition To Make Tampons Tax-Free

Periods - a monthly reminder that actually sometimes it is hard to be a woman.

Whether you have a regular flow or have to sleep an extra nine hours a day just to get through it, there's no denying this is one of the least fun things about being female.

Which is why we should all sign this petition on Change.org to make sanitary towels and tampons tax-free.

At the moment, HM Revenue and Customs does not include these products - used by almost every woman at some point - as "essentials" and due to this they are not tax-free.

In case you were wondering, items the government body does deem to be completely necessary - and therefore are sold tax-free - include men's razors (yep, just men's), alcoholic jellies, edible cake decorations and exotic meats. That moment you realise the world is completely mad...

The campaign and petition was started by Londoner Laura Coryton and so far has been signed by more than 35,000 people.

However, it needs another 10,000 signatures to really get the attention of George Osborne.

In her letter to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Coryton writes: "Reduce your tax on sanitary products to 02B9QZJcZrz62BIo%2FEHrFexturORVWjWSILo5pAwrww0CSnw" target="_blank">Sign the petition here and let's make periods tax-free.
