Plus-size model Georgina Burke has just landed a massive campaign with an American retailer. Surely this means the fashion world is changing?
Plus-size retailer Torrid has named Australian model Georgina as the first-ever face of their brand. She features on the cover of their swimsuit catalogue as well as on their website and in stores.
"I kind of freaked," she told WWD. "It was just so exciting. A plus-size model going under contract with a brand hasn't happened for years, and it couldn't be with a better company."
While this marks a the first major plus-size ad campaign we've seen in a long time, we're not convinced it proves there's a change in the fashion industry.
It would be a little odd if a plus-size brand didn't use a plus-size model in its campaign. We'd be a lot more hopeful of a change if a retailer which didn't exclusively stock a plus-size range made Georgina the face of the brand. She is drop-dead gorgeous after all.
But whatever the weather, it's refreshing to see a variety of shapes and sizes represented across the industry. Agreed?
