New painting of pregnant Kate Middleton shows her breastfeeding

The Duchess of Cambridge doesn't seem to have much luck when it comes to being painted. There was the rather ageing Paul Emsley portrait which went on display back in January, and now, a frankly quite weird new picture of her breastfeeding and haloed has been unveiled by artist Kaya Mar.

The Madonna-like representation of the Duchess sees her sitting on a rug clutching a tiny, crowned baby to her breast.

At her threadbare red-socked feet is an oddly-scaled corgi, seemingly asleep with its mouth open.

Kate is smiling in the picture, her hair loose and lustrous around her shoulders, and a golden halo glowing around her head.

London-based Mar usually paints caricatures of political and entertainment figures.

Clarence House would not comment on the picture as it is not an official commission.

What do you think of the painting? And what - if anything - does the red sock signify?
