Schoolgirl Did Not Defend Herself In Attack - Because She Feared Suspension

A school's discipline policy has been called into question after a video emerged of a girl being attacked - but not defending herself for fear of being suspended.

The Yukon High school in Oklahoma suspends any pupils involved in a fight - even if they are acting in self-defence.

The school's head teacher says the policy is in place to protect all students.

"Yukon High School does not advocate violence from fighting; we want to ensure a safe and secure environment for our students," principal Joe Meziere told Kfor.com's News Channel Four.

The disturbing video, shot on a mobile phone, shows the girl being set upon in the school corridor, repeatedly being shoved and pushed to the ground by another student before another girl wades in.

"Legally we would not have charged her if she fought back in this circumstance," Yukon police Lt. Ron Matthews told the News Channel. "That video was very clear that she was literally jumped."

The police have now charged two sisters with assaulting the unnamed pupil.
