Shop: 10 Summer Knits Perfect For British Summer

The British summertime is a tricky mistress to master - it's sunny, then it's rainy, then it's hailing - so investing in a fine knit for when the temperature suddenly drops is a good idea.

When it comes to summer woolies, pretty pastels knits were prominent on the Spring/Summer 2014 catwalks (Sportmax, Kenzo, Whistles) and the high street is stocked full of styles to get the look.

It's girly with a hard edge so team yours with a leather skirt and chunky sandal or ripped denims and grungy eye makeup.

You don't have to splurge, though the collections on Farfetch.com (the red and white stripe Saint Laurent sequinned jumper) and Net-a-Porter are pretty dreamy if you've got cash to spend and want a statement piece. Otherwise, there are plenty of styles from more mainstream brands nodding to this season's catwalk trends.

Topshop have cropped, lace-hemmed knits for around £30 while H&M have fine, slouchy pieces (the perfect basics) from £7.99. Did we mention Marks & Spencer? You need this brand on your fashion radar this season more than ever because the new collections style director Belinda Earl and her team are showcasing are incredible. Check out the chunky knit ribbed jumper below.

Here is our edit of trendy summer knits to shop - you only need one or two and opting for a classic shade as well as a pastel/fluoro/print is wise.

As for cardigans - take real caution here, especially with the smocky/buttonless styles. You want to avoid frumpy territory at all costs.
