With only days to go before he becomes a dad, normally unflappable Simon Cowell has revealed he's on tenterhooks about the birth of his son.

Speaking at the launch of Britain's Got Talent, he said he may have to leave his seat on the panel at London's Hammersmith Apollo at any minute to race back to New York, where Lauren plans to give birth.

He said: "If it happens then I'll just have to go.

I'd like to be there for the birth... but a little bit further away.

"I'll probably be nervous when it happens. I'm going to watch Father Of The Bride tonight to pick up tips on being a good dad."

The music mogul is just days away from the birth of his son but claimed girlfriend Lauren Silverman had given him a pass to carry on with his hectic workload.

He said: "Lauren knows what my work schedule is and everything else so she's cool with that."

He insisted Lauren would take the new baby on their travels when Simon had to jet back to LA.

But he said he planned to spend more time in Britain to raise the baby - who he joked will be called Simon Junior - as a Brit.

He said: "We'll travel a bit. We made the decision when we came back to the UK last year that Lauren wants to live here for a while."

But he added: "I haven't changed a nappy before and I won't. I just can't do it."
