For better or worse, schools appear to cracking down on sloppy dress among pupils. Whether you are a firm believer in strict uniform policies or not, it seems that stories of kids facing harsh punishments for having skirts too short or hair too long have become a constant fixture in the news.
In our own school days, most of us were guilty of the occasional loosened tie or rolled-up hemline (even Victoria Beckham has confessed to tarting-up her uniform back in the day) and never saw anything worse than a stern ticking-off or a detention in response. But with young transgressors now facing isolation, suspension and threats of expulsion, frustrated parents have begun to wonder if schools have gone too far in their efforts to impose strict standards on their pupils' appearance.
