Sweden's Prince Carl Philip Is Marrying An Underwear Model

Prince Carl Philip of Sweden has announced his engagement to Sofia Hellqvist.

The third-in-line to the Swedish throne and his fiance were at Drottningholm Palace on Friday where they shared their good news during a press conference in the palace gardens.

The couple met back in 2009 and have been dating since 2010 so an engagement was on the cards. Prince Charles Philip will marry Sofia, a former model and reality TV star, next summer.

"I have the incredible honour of being engaged to this fantastic girl," the royal told press on Friday.

The couple were all smiles as they held hands and shared their first public kiss while being photographed following the announcement.

Queen Silvia and King Carl XVI were also present and the official statement on the royal family's website confirmed the news: "'The Marshal of the Realm is delighted to announce the engagement between Prince Carl Philip and Miss Sofia Hellqvist.

"After His Majesty The King of Sweden had given his consent to the marriage between Prince Carl Philip and Miss Sofia Hellqvist, His Majesty requested the approval by the Swedish Government, in accordance with the procedures set out in the Swedish Constitution."

While this match may not have had everyone's approval from the start - Sofia was once a glamour model and starred on reality television show Paradise Hotel in 2005 - the couple have received everyone's blessing.
