Teacher Stole Food From Kids' Lunchboxes

A teacher has been hauled up before a disciplinary panel after being caught stealing food from her pupils' lunchboxes.

The unnamed woman - who taught at a childcare centre in New Zealand - was found out after her sandwich snaffling was captured by CCTV cameras.

Up until then, other members of staff had not believed the children when they complained that their lunchboxes had been broken into.

The footage showed the teacher opening the pupils' food bags and helping herself to their lunches, either by eating the items straight away, or squirreling them away in her pockets for later.

News.com reports that the New Zealand Teachers Council ruled her behaviour amounted to serious misconduct, and put limits on her teaching certificate for five years. She must disclose the decision to all future employers.

In a letter to the Teachers Council, she made no excuses for her behaviour, and accepted it amounted to serious misconduct.

"She emphasised that she was trying to put this incident behind her, that there would be no repetition, and that she was hoping to move on with her career," the committee said.
