Family eating pancakes

Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday, is on March 4 this year (2014) because of a late Easter. But don't let the long wait catch you unawares - planning your recipes in advance can make Pancake Day really special for the family.

We all know the traditional British Shrove Tuesday pancake is served with a simple topping of sugar and lemon juice. But there is a whole world of flavour to be explored through the humble pancake. How about blueberry, or coconut or duck?

We've collected our favourite variations on the pancake for you to try out at home.

Strawberry, blueberry and cinnamon pancakes

Crispy duck pancakes with cucumber, peppers and hoi sin sauce

Sweetcorn and red onion pancakes

Another savoury take on the pancake, this one packed with guilty-free crunchy veg and smothered in a lip-smacking sweet chilli sauce.
