Chelsea are pulling out all the stops to sign a footballer from Barcelona – even though he's only 11 years old.

Dutch wonderkid Xavier Simons only learned to tie his bootlaces a few years ago, but he has already made a name for himself at Barcelona where he's regarded as the new Lionel Messi.

Now it's reported that Premiership club Chelsea want to throw a very large amount of money his family's way to secure the boy's future services.

Talk about investing to accumulate! Xavier is rated as one to keep an eye on in Barcelona's famed academy, renowned for producing - and keeping hold of - some of Europe's best players, such as Messi, Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

Barca are expected to do everything they can to make sure the super-talented boy doesn't slip through their fingers, but Chelsea are determined to land him.

It's reported they've offered 'significant compensation' to Barca along with a big package to Simons' family, in order to convince them to change countries.

A host of young talents have left the Catalan club for the Premier League in recent years, but none of them have been so young.

It's thought that Chelsea are pushing for a quick answer but are prepared to offer more money in a bid to make the deal happen.
