Prince Harry celebrates his 30th birthday today - can you believe it? The years have flown by, as you can see from the photo above of the royal as a chubby-cheeked toddler. Are we the only ones who see a resemblance to Prince George in the young Prince Harry?

Although Harry was once legendary for his love of partying, there'll be no wild celebrations of the big three-oh for now.

Big brother Prince William and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, were planning on hosting a birthday bash at Kensington Palace, but Harry decided to call off the shindig out of consideration for Kate, who has been suffering hyperemesis gravidarum.

No details of his revised birthday plans have been released but we bet it'll be a right royal knees-up.

The Prince, who will be demoted to fifth in line to the throne with the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's second child, was born Henry Charles Albert David on 15 September 1984.

Although he and his brother followed the traditional private school route, their mother, Princess Diana, was determined to expose them to the wider world. Harry and William were snapped accompanying her during her charity work from a young age.

But their mother, who died when Harry was 12, also wanted them to experience the lighter side of normal life, taking them to fast food restaurants to get a break from life as an heir to the British throne.

Story continues after this video.

Despite the occasional gaffe (and misjudged fancy dress outfit), Harry has proved to be one of the most popular royals, and his relaxed demeanour and brotherly banter with Wills have been credited with helping keep the monarchy relevant to younger generations.

For a while, Harry was a regular fixture in London's swankiest nightclubs - but as he's matured, his enthusiasm for charity work, as well as his military service, have ensured that he has escaped being labelled a 'party prince'.

Although he has spoken of his fondness for Prince George and the excitement of being an uncle, there are still no signs of Harry starting a family of his own. We know he's keen, though - in 2012, he told ABC News: "I have longed for kids since I was very, very young." Watch this space!
