Dresses For Weddings: Winter 2014

Winter wedding-going is a fabulous affair.

Sure, the drop in temperature means you'll need to think about coats, scarves and gloves as well as the dress and shoes - but there's something lavish about winter wedding season.

Finding the perfect dress can be pretty nightmarish, so we've created an edit of catwalk-inspired styles that fall into three key Autumn/Winter 2014 trends.

1. Lace and sheer...

The Valentino, Oscar de la Renta and Alberta FerrettiAutumn/Winter 2014 runways showcased breathtaking looks made for playing gorgeous wedding guest.

Dark, sultry shades with embroidered floral detailing look the part, otherwise colour block in navy or nude. The new collections at Reiss, Topshop and Net-a-Porter are to die for.

2. Top-to-toe red...

Playing lady in red, like the fleet of models on the Dolce & Gabanna, Simone Rocha and Viktor & Rolf Autumn/Winter 2014 catwalks, is fail-proof.

Go bright, textured, tailored and pair with a clashy bag and a smart flat shoe.

3. Metallic...

If you want something that says PURE glamour with a flash of Hollywood then embrace metallic.

The icy, feminine, futuristic mood on the Mary Katrantzou catwalk, and the fresh paired-with-backpacks-and-anoraks dresses at Miu Miu are how to make an entrance.

Dress-coats are a big trend this season and will give your look a sophisticated edge. Otherwise metallic styles with blingy embellishment and chunky waist-belts will look flawless at any winter wedding reception.

Karen Millen, Marks & Spencer and Warehouse have some head-turning affordable styles that you'll definitely re-wear. It is party dress season too, after all.
