Katherine Jenkins says she's ready to start a family with her new husband Andrew Levitas.

The Welsh singer married the American artist earlier this year and now says she wants a baby in 2015.

Katherine, 34, told the Sunday People: "Now I'm married I do want kids. In fact rumours have started that I'm already expecting. My manager called me last week and asked, 'Are you pregnant?'

"I'm like, 'You saw me drinking champagne last week, come on!' It's so funny, when you get engaged they say, 'When are you getting married?'

"Then when you get married they're like, 'When are you having babies?' Give us a rest, give us a chance!

"But I do really want a family. Please God, touch wood, we'll be lucky and they'll be fit and healthy. That's all I care about.

"I'm promoting my new album until Christmas, then I'm touring the UK in February and March.

"Having kids is on the list of priorities. We'll see what happens."

Opera star Katherine and 37-year-old Andrew were got married at Hampton Court Palace on September 27 – the same day as George Clooney tied the knot with British lawyer Amal Alamuddin, 36.

But Katherine's perfect day was tinged with sadness because her dad and her best friend weren't there.

Dad Selwyn died of lung cancer when she was 15, and her best friend Polly Noble passed away in May aged 32 following an eight-year fight against cervical cancer.

Katherine recalled: "My mum walked me down the aisle and did the speech in the place of my father.

"It really did feel like he was there. Me and Andrew both lost our fathers to lung cancer when we were young.

She went on: "I've got six best friends and never did it cross my mind Polly wouldn't be at my wedding.

"Her death was tragic but she had amazing energy to live every day. She never gave up, was always so brave. "If she was here she'd be the first one to jet off somewhere she had always wanted to go, or be the first on the dance floor at a party.

"I'm lucky that I'm here to live the life she would have wanted. I take inspiration from her attitude."
