Luxury retailer Moda Operandi has managed to start selling red carpet dresses - an hour after a runway show.

Loved Faith Hill's J Mendel beaded gown? It's yours, for $14,500 (coughs, splutters, that's £9,380).

Or what about Jennifer Lopez's white fox fur shrug (if you're into that kind of thing) from the Vanity Fair Oscars party? Again, yours - if your purse allows.

It's long been difficult, nigh on impossible, to shop straight from the red carpet, as Lucie Greene, Worldwide Director of JWTIntelligence trends forecasting group told Newsweek.

"It's difficult to make the red carpet shop-able because many, if not most, of these gowns are a season ahead and are not yet available or they're fully bespoke and created especially for that actress with no plans to put into production," she said.

"There has yet to be a perfect model of directly connecting the red carpet to commerce."

Cue Moda Operandi. Its founders took inspiration from traditional trunk shows that designers hold for elite clients who want to pre-order looks for next season.

Laiea Smith, Moda Operandi's vice president of marketing, said, "Our online trunk show empowers the client, connecting her directly with the designer.

"Within one hour after a runway show, the collections are available on our app to wish-list. In 2014, we launched 584 trunk shows."

The company's trunk shows started in 2012, with customers putting down a 50 per cent deposit and paying the remainder upon delivery.

Smith adds, "Many of the looks we see on the red carpet are from a designer's latest runway collection, which builds extra excitement for our clients.

"The ability to feature these items for pre-order is exceptionally unique as most department and specialty stores do not include runway pieces in their seasonal buys."

Amazing. Now we just need to book an appointment with our bank manager...
