His mother Sandra Buckle told the Daily Star of how Ryan heard the commotion whilst also on a ramble, and rushed to save Jack.

Recalling the events, she told the paper: "We were out walking on Saturday afternoon and Jack was acting up a bit. So we walked out the caves a bit to get him to follow us, you know how you do.

"We then heard Jack yell in the caves and ran back. He had slipped on the rocks and fallen face down into the water.

"Before we knew it, Ryan was there and he scooped him up out the water. We didn't even realise who it was at that stage, we just knew he was a hero."

Later that evening, the Jason Grimshaw actor was arrested for allegedly being drunk and disorderly after a row at a Lake District pub.

He ended up spending the night in custody at Kendal police station after officers were called to the Wheelhouse Club and Lounge, Bowness-on-Windermere.

Cumbria Police confirmed an arrest, saying: "Officers arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly."

An eyewitness added to The Sun: “He was there with four or five mates but it all kicked off in the loos.

“It took at least ten minutes to get him outside as he was kicking off. Suddenly about five or six police vans turned up. Cops round here don’t mess about when someone can’t handle their drink.

“Outside it kicked off again. He was put in the back of a van as his mates mouthed off at bouncers. It was a really big scene.”

He was later fined £90 for being drunk and disorderly.

Ryan’s arrest comes just weeks after he announced he was quitting ‘Corrie’.

The actor, who has played builder Jason Grimshaw for the last 15 years, said it was time to ‘spread his wings and pursue new challenges’ with his sights set on Hollywood.

“It has been a great privilege to be in ‘Coronation Street’ – the cast and crew are among the best in the business,” Ryan said. “To be a part of it for so long has been an amazing experience.

“The decision to leave was extremely difficult. I’m just excited now to see what exit storyline the writers give Jason.”
