Disney's New Car-Like Robot VertiGo Can Climb Walls

Forget Spider-Man. Disney's Gravity-Defying Robot Climbs Walls

Disney has produced the ultimate creation - a car-like robot that can climb walls and ceilings.

Dubbed VertiGo, the bot has four wheels and two propellers, allowing it to smoothly transition from floor to wall.

In order to pull off this mechanical feat, the rear propeller gives the bot horizontal thrust while the front propeller allows it to move upwards.

The design is the brainchild of Disney Research Zurich and ETH, who believe their new inventions will allow machines to transition easily between urban and indoor environments.

If you're wondering how heavy this gravity-defying creation is, you should consider what it is made out of.

According to Disney, VertiGo has 3D-printed parts and carbon rods.

Its movement is manoeuvred in a similar manner to remote-controlled cars, using an onboard computer that is incorporated as the controller.

On their website, Disney Research stated: "By transitioning from the ground to a wall and back again, VertiGo extends the ability of robots to travel through urban and indoor environments.

"The robot is able to move on a wall quickly and with agility."
