Daily Post+Bloomberg+Jacqueline Gold=Very Exciting

Okay, I'll admit it. I can get excited over things. Not in a 'fluffy, tossing my hair and squealing' way, more in a 'butterflies in the tummy and heart rate up' way. It's nice to feel that way, and it happens when we are doing something that is (usually) fun, exciting and sometimes a little unexpected or 'special'. I have spent most of this week feeling that way.

Martin Williams is the Business Editor, and after a very enjoyable conversation with him, and some information sent over via the PR guy, Martin wrote a whole page story devoted to Young Woman of Business.

On it's own this would have been utterly fantastic at getting the word out and encouraging local young women to get in touch, but Martin then went on to tweet links repeatedly through the day and make sure that it was the best read article in the business section online that day.

Whilst it's always nice to have a story that uses your own picture, what is much nicer is when the person writing about what you are doing is so keen to help you spread the word.

When the pre-eminent newspaper in N.Wales devotes that many column inches to Young Woman of Business then it is fairly clear what that particular Business Editor thinks of the Award.

  • She's been voted the second Most Powerful Woman in Retail by Retail Week
  • the Most Inspirational Businesswoman in the UK (Barclays Bank)
  • one of Britain's Business Icons (Nat West Bank)
  • and one of Britain's Top Businesswomen by publications including Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Woman, and Good Housekeeping.

All very impressive, but the obvious question is something along the lines of what does this have to do with the Young Woman of Business Award?

Well, when someone who has more accolades than they could tell you over a cup of tea; runs not just a successful company, but a group of companies and still has to find time for her family; When someone like that tweets to her 28K+ followers to say that she thinks that Young Woman of Business is a great initiative, then I know that what I am doing has to be beneficial to the winners.

When it comes to business comment, many look to Bloomberg to lead their knowledge.

Clearly it has some stiff (and very worthy) competition from the likes of the Washington Post, or Times, or FT - but it is 'up there'.

This week they carried a story about Young Woman of Business

Seems that even Bloomberg think it is a good idea

The shortlist is being compiled by the YWofB elves, and I have spoken to a number of very enthusiastic young women. Whilst it is too early to hint at a standout nomination, the quality, diversity and calibre are extraordinary.

Whether they are established, or want to start out for the first time, the enthusiasm and drive demonstrated is almost humbling - some of them aren't much younger than me, but seem to have more energy!

After the last few conversations, and any late nominations are completed, we will move to the final stage which is to meet with the finalists, and then...then we are off!

I can't wait.
