Maritime and historical archaeologist, PhD Cambridge, and specialist in the history of human society during the last 2000 years, as well as the study of globalisation and the spread of world religions. I have conducted excavations in Egypt, Eastern Africa, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Caribbean, Eastern USA, France, UK and Ireland and have a particular interest in early Christian, Islamic and Buddhist communities, and pioneer European settlement after 1492. My television career has spanned 20 years with early episodes of Time Team, expert presenter of BBC Timeflyers and BBC Coast. Also a regular contributor to newspapers and magazines on heritage topics.
