The British Left, Moral Equivalence and the Cult of Julian Assange

Posted: 22/08/2012 17:32

The evil United States strikes again, according to the supporters of Julian Assange - well, mainly segments of the British left. Those who argue and combat against sexism and declare themselves as "feminists" (in some cases) have justified Assange's belief he should not face trial over rape allegations. Self declared Patron Saint of anti-imperialism, anti-West and anti-America has mutated and distorted the minds of some sane people.

Rape allegations are a smoke screen (apparently) to have Assange executed by the US Federal Government, even though the European Union DOES NOT extradite individuals who risks facing the death penalty. And Britain and Sweden would have to both sanction his transfer to the United States, which the Swedes have no interest in. In other words, this will not occur - unless European governments want to engage in arduous battles at the European Court of Human Rights.

Even so, his supporters continue the conspiracies and even begun to define what is rape.....

Tony Benn, former Labour minister, and George Galloway have interrupted the definition of rape, in order to depict the West as 'being in the wrong'. This mentality that Western capitalist society is so evil, that every decision and action is a clandestine conspiracy is highly absurd, and grotesquely insulting. It is logical fallacy; moral equivalence of the worse kind.

One individual told a Channel 4 news reporter that, with his good looks, Assange "didn't need to rape". I'm literally speechless. These are the same individuals who demand American soldiers face war crime proceedings for allege sexual abuses incidences in Iraq and Afghanistan. As I said before, West = evil and Assange = good.

Just like the Stop the War Coalition, who said Bin Laden's grievances needed to be "addressed" after the United States announced his death. The group came close to legitimising the belligerent existence of Al Qaeda because the West failed to listen to the terrorist organisations propaganda. The American government was, in their eyes, to blame for all the terrorist incidents - not the actual terrorists, who orchestrated decades of bombings.

Julian Assange, like 9/11 and the Iraq War, has become an avatar of Western conspiracies and a symbol of anti-globalisation, which majority of his supporters spend their time protesting against. If Assange did not exist, Hugo Chavez or Field Casto would be rallying point; in other words, Julian Assange is the contemporary Che Guevara.

And like Cult of Che Guevara, followers ignore the allege crimes because of what Julian represents and fights against.

I presume Mr Furr has read and digested this fascinating Scandinavian overview of the Assange allegations. It is required reading:

I read that. The laughter from reading it makes me wonder do people honest believe any of it. Yes, there are some facts in it. However, there is no objectivity any where in the article. Well nothing has change Assange is still a fugitive from justice, no matter how much some want to deny that.

What's more subjective than the "Suspicious Behaviour" report is this article. The "Cult of Julian Assange" in the heading is a typical journalistic installment to mislead the uninformed and subject them to personal opinion rather than disposing of researched facts. There's no "cult" of Julian Assange. Too many writers seem to spew opinions rather than facts, perhaps because they're lazy office journalists.

Wikileaks promotes transparency and accountability amongst those in power. Anyone actually has something against this, or anyone wholeheartedly agree with US military's actions in the "Collateral Murder" incident or that of any other governments military wrongdoings that Wikileaks exposed, by US or others? Those who think so may be in no need of justice and probably support some nationalistic political agenda, or/and follow too much mainstream media.

Wikileaks is a modern-day government watchdog that effectively exposes crimes of the powerful, anywhere. This helps create a better and more peaceful world with more equal opportunity for individuals.

Regarding the rape accusations, there's probably no great conspiracy, just a series of unfortunate events, jealousy by the women, coupled with an otherwise fair legal system gone wrong and that has now become subject to political scrutiny worldwide.

In the meantime, let's lock the perpetrator up for "consensual rape". And if that doesn't stick, the legal system will surely find something that does, just to prove it works. No fair trial is awaiting Assange in Sweden, UK and certainly not the US.

One example is on the Red Notice. It is written "Ms. Ny authorizes Interpol to post a Red Notice
on Assange, the highest priority alert which is usually reserved for the most serious criminal suspects."

Now that was suspicious as Interpol designates the Red Notice for those wanted for crimes.

Specifically, "To seek the location and detention, arrest or restriction of movement of a person wanted by a national jurisdiction or an international tribunal for the purpose of extradition, surrender, or similar lawful action." (source:Interpol)

However the article mentions that an Orange Notice would be more appropriate. However, that is not the purpose of the Orange Notice.

"To warn of an event, a person, an object, a process or a modus operandi representing an imminent threat to public safety and likely to cause serious damage to property or injury to persons." (source:Interpol)

Wikipedia has the same information as Interpol.

Come on the report "Suspicious Behaviour" isn't fascinating, but funny, as to those who would believe that all falsities contained in it.
