Calum was one of the stand out contestants of last year’s series, when he became Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer act following his unique take on Robyn’s ‘Dancing On My Own’ at his first audition.
He’s now excitedly shared the news he has landed a recording contract with Capitol Records in the US, with his fans.
Writing on his Facebook, he said: “SO stoked to announce and can finally confirm that I'm now a SIGNED RECORDING ARTIST to Capitol Records, Universal Music Group. Thank you to all involved - the journey starts here.”
An insider also added to The Mirror: “This is a dream come true for Calum and he has a great team around him now. He worked hard for quite a few years on the local music scene before entering ‘BGT’ and he's been dying to reveal the news since he signed the deal.”
Despite clearly impressing Simon Cowell and sailing through to last year’s ‘BGT’ final, the music mogul ultimately decided not to sign Calum up to his record label, Syco.
Back in April, Calum admitted not being picked up by Simon’s label was a blow at the time, telling the Express: “I was worried people would think that’s it, done, I had my few moments of fame. One of things I did think was that if I wasn’t picked up by Syco, maybe that was it for me.
“But I’ve been given some amazing opportunities. I feel everything happens for a reason. They didn’t pick me up and that’s fine. But I’ve appealed to other people and maybe I'll find my home with a different label and after some of the conversations I’ve been having, that may be the case sooner than you think. It’s super exciting times.”
This year’s ‘BGT’ final saw Richard Jones becoming the first magician to win the show in its 10-series history, triumphing over swing singer Wayne Woodward.
