But it soon emerges that Sam is dealing with her own problems, as she contemplates abandoning her son, Richard, with his father Jack (Scott Maslen).

It becomes apparent Sam is hiding something from her family, as they become increasingly worried about her drunken behaviour.

When Phil (Steve McFadden) confronts her, she angrily storms out, and it isn’t long before Roxy (Rita Simons) spots her with her luggage.

Worried about her cousin, she encourages Sam to open up, but is shocked when she reveals she is struggling with motherhood and plans to leave Richard behind in Walford.

‘EastEnders’ airs these scenes on Friday (8 July) at 8pm on BBC One.
