Joe Dempsie has revealed how Game Of Thrones would have been a little different if he’d landed the first role he auditioned for.

The Skins actor has become a fan favourite thanks to his portrayal of Gendry, but he initially had his eye on the part of Jon Snow.

Speaking at the BFI And Radio Times Television Festival in London on Sunday night, he explained: “I auditioned for Jon Snow eventually, pretty much every actor of a certain age went for it.

“18 months after that I auditioned for Pip and another of Jon’s mates at the wall.”

When he eventually landed a part Joe was stunned, as he describes his audition for Gendry as “the worst I’d ever done”.

“After every scene there was silence and they said they were worried nobody would understand me,” Joe admitted.

Joe isn’t the only Skins actor to have landed a part in GoT, as Hannah Murray (who played Cassie) also stars as Gilly.

Joe was speaking shortly before the series eight premiere, which technically took place as the first new episode went out at 2am on Monday.

The episode is now avaliable to watch on Now TV and Sky Go, before being shown on Sky Atlantic again, at 9pm tonight.
